When flying within visual line of sight, you must keep direct eye contact with your drone without using binoculars or lenses (except corrective glasses), and the drone must never be more than 400 meters away from you.

To operate under visual line of sight (VLOS), the UA pilot must maintain direct, unaided, and unobstructed visual contact with the unmanned aircraft, and the distance between the pilot and the aircraft must not exceed 400 meters.

Original regulatory text

“visual line of sight” means — (a) the UA pilot is able to maintain direct, unaided and unobstructed visual contact of the UA so as to monitor its flight path in relation to other aircraft, persons, vessels, vehicles and structures for the purpose of avoiding collision; and (b) the distance between the UA pilot and the UA does not exceed 400 m.
