Sources and methodology

Drone Assistant answers from a regulatory database built out of official publications. It does not simply ask a general AI model to search the web each time you ask a question. This page explains how an answer is built and what you can check for yourself.

How an answer is built

    Official source

    Aviation authorities, legislation, official regulatory publications and official geographical datasets. Machine-readable publications are preferred over scraped pages.

    Structured regulatory facts

    Each published rule is broken down into single, atomic requirements with their conditions, thresholds, units and the exact official text they came from.

    Relevant facts retrieved

    Your question is matched against the stored facts for the jurisdictions that apply to it. Binding law outranks guidance material.

    Answer generated

    A plain-language answer is written from the retrieved facts only, not from a general web search.

    Claims checked

    Every material statement in the answer is bound back to the fact that supports it. Statements that cannot be bound are flagged rather than presented as established.

    Citations attached

    You see the authority, the regulation, the article or section, the official text and a link to the official source.

What counts as a source

Civil aviation authorities, national legislation, official regulatory publications and official geographical and airspace datasets. Each stored source keeps its publication identity: authority, document, version, retrieval date and a content fingerprint, so a change in the official text can be detected and shown.

Jurisdiction inheritance

Many countries apply a national layer on top of a shared framework. Drone Assistant models this explicitly rather than mixing rules together.

  • Finland: Finnish and Traficom requirements plus the EU and EASA framework.
  • France: French requirements plus the EU and EASA framework.
  • Germany: German requirements plus the EU and EASA framework.
  • United States: a standalone federal framework.
  • United Kingdom: a standalone national framework.

An answer tells you which layers were evaluated, so you can see whether a national requirement was found or whether only the shared framework applied.

Versioning and monitoring

Sources are re-checked on a schedule. When an official publication changes, the change is recorded and the affected requirements are re-derived. Answers show when the underlying sources were last verified, and warn you when a dataset is out of date, partially evaluated, currently updating or unavailable.

Geographical and airspace data

Location assessments use official published datasets, such as national geographical-zone publications and official airspace data. These datasets state their own scope. Where a dataset is known not to include temporary restrictions such as NOTAMs, the answer says so. A location result is never flight clearance.

What Drone Assistant does not do

It does not grant permission, clearance, authorisation or approval, and it does not provide legal advice. Where data is missing, it says the data is missing. Missing data is never presented as permission to fly.
