VLOS Weather and Visibility Requirements

Before flying, ensure the weather is good enough that you (or your visual observer) can see the drone at all times during the flight, and that the weather meets the limits in your drone's manual.

Requirement as structured

A pilot must only conduct a VLOS operation if weather conditions permit compliance with the RPAS operating manuals and allow the pilot or visual observer to maintain visual line-of-sight for the entire flight.

Original regulatory text

(1) No pilot shall operate a remotely piloted aircraft to conduct a VLOS operation unless the weather conditions at the time of flight permit (a) the operation to be conducted in accordance with the operating manuals applicable to the remotely piloted aircraft system of which the aircraft is an element; and (b) the pilot or any visual observer to conduct the entire flight in visual-line-of-sight.
