Expedited handling of press applications for urgent or highly significant news

If a genuinely unforeseeable, urgent or highly newsworthy event happens, the press can ask the Danish CAA to fast-track a drone permission. The authority can waive chapter 3 and 4 requirements only where flight safety is not affected, and the police or the Ministry of Defence must agree for certain zones — by phone if it is urgent.

Requirement as structured

The press may request expedited handling of an application where a news event is urgent, or of particular and substantial importance to the public, and could not have been foreseen by the press. In such a situation Trafikstyrelsen may grant a derogation from the requirements in chapters 3 and 4 only to the extent that the derogation does not affect flight safety. Rigspolitiet must consent where the derogation concerns § 11 or § 20, and the Ministry of Defence (Forsvarsministeriet) must consent where it concerns § 9 or § 13. In special, urgent cases that consent may be obtained by telephone, or replaced by notification of the police or the Ministry of Defence where the press must have consent from the police and/or the Ministry of Defence before the drone operation may be carried out.

§ 30 a. Pressen kan anmode om hastebehandling af deres ansøgninger, når en nyhed har en hastende karakter eller er af særlig, væsentlig betydning for offentligheden, som pressen ikke kunne have forudset. I en sådan situation kan Trafikstyrelsen dispensere fra kravene i kapitel 3 og 4 i det omfang, en dispensation ikke berører flyvesikkerheden. Rigspolitiet skal give samtykke, hvis styrelsen dispenserer fra § 11 og § 20, og Forsvarsministeriet skal give samtykke, hvis styrelsen dispenserer fra § 9 eller § 13. Dette samtykke kan i særlige, hastende tilfælde indhentes telefonisk eller erstattes af orientering af politiet eller Forsvarsministeriet, hvis pressen skal have samtykke fra politiet og/eller Forsvarsministeriet, før droneoperationen må gennemføres.
