Minimum Horizontal Distance (1:1 Rule)

You should maintain a horizontal distance from uninvolved persons that is at least equal to your flying height (the 1:1 rule). For example, if flying at 30 meters high, stay at least 30 meters away horizontally.

Requirement as structured

EASA accepts that the minimum horizontal distance from a person passing the area is estimated as no less than the height of the UA (the '1:1 rule'), as a means of complying with UAS.OPEN.040(1).

A minimum horizontal distance from the person that is passing the area could be estimated as follows: [...] (2) no less than the height (‘1:1 rule’, i.e. if the UA is flying at a height of 30 m, the distance of the UA from the uninvolved person should be at least 30 m)
