Exceptions to the 400 feet altitude limit

You can fly higher than 400 feet only inside a designated danger area, or if you are more than 4 km from an airport, in uncontrolled (Class G) airspace, and have filed a NOTAM at least 24 hours beforehand.

Original regulatory text

A person may operate a remotely piloted aircraft above 400 feet above ground level if - (1) the operation is in a danger area designated for that purpose under Part 71; or (2) the operation - (i) is conducted more than 4 km from the closest point of an aerodrome boundary; and (ii) remains within class G airspace; and (iii) is appropriately notified in accordance with paragraph (d) at least 24 hours before the operation.
