If you hold a type certificate for a drone and want to change its design or how it is manufactured, you must get approval from the government first. This also applies if you need to change the design because safety or manufacturing standards have been updated.

Requirement as structured

A person who has obtained a Type Certification (型式認証) must obtain approval from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism before making changes to the design or manufacturing process of the certified type of unmanned aircraft, including when changes are made to comply with updated safety or uniformity standards.

型式認証を受けた者は、当該型式の無人航空機の設計又は製造過程の変更をしようとするときは、国土交通大臣の承認を受けなければならない。安全基準又は均一性基準の変更があつた場合において、型式認証を受けた型式の無人航空機が安全基準又は均一性基準に適合しなくなつたことにより当該型式の無人航空機の設計又は製造過程を変更しようとするときも、同様とする。
