When applying for a Part 102 certificate, you must prove to the CAA that you have a system to continuously manage new risks, properly train your staff, and regularly inspect your drones to keep them airworthy.

CAA NZ requires Part 102 applicants to demonstrate that they have a continuous risk management plan, adequately trained and resourced staff, and a frequent maintenance check process to ensure UAS airworthiness.

Applicants for a Part 102 certificate need to be able to show CAA they: • have identified the hazards in their intended operation • have adequately assessed the associated risks • have identified appropriate mitigations • have an ongoing plan, with associated processes, to identify, assess and manage any new or changing risks, and monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigations • can ensure staff are adequately trained and resourced to carry out the plan and its processes on an ongoing basis, and • can ensure the operation’s UAS are checked frequently and thoroughly enough to mitigate risks of them not being airworthy.
