Revocation or Suspension of Pilot Certificate due to Physical Disability

If you develop a physical disability that affects your ability to fly safely, your pilot certificate may be revoked. If the issue can be resolved within 6 months by adding specific conditions to your license (such as wearing corrective lenses), your certificate will be suspended instead of revoked.

Requirement as structured

The Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism may revoke a Remote Pilot Certificate (技能証明) or suspend it for a period of up to one year if the holder develops a physical disability, provided that the certificate shall be suspended rather than revoked if the risk to safe operation can be mitigated within six months by adding or modifying operational conditions.

国土交通大臣は、技能証明を受けた者が法第百三十二条の五十三第二号に該当するときは、次に掲げる基準に従い、その技能証明を取り消し、又は一年以内において期間を定めてその技能証明の効力を停止することができる。 一　法第百三十二条の五十三第二号に該当することとなつた場合（次号の場合を除く。）には、技能証明を取り消すものとする。 二　次条第四項第三号に掲げる身体の障害が生じているが、法第百三十二条の四十四第一項の規定により条件を付し、又はこれを変更することにより、六月以内に当該障害が無人航空機の安全な操縦に支障を及ぼすおそれがなくなる見込みがある場合には、技能証明の効力を停止するものとする。
