VLOS Operation Boundary Limit
Verified from official sources9UAM 008, para. 11Version 1Effective -Verified 24 August 2026
In plain language
If your drone can fly further than your visual line of sight limit (even within its contingency buffer), you must plan and get approval for a BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operation.
Requirement as structured
If the maximum distance between the pilot location and the outer boundary of the contingency volume exceeds the calculated VLOS limit, the operation must be conducted as BVLOS.
Original regulatory text
Note: If the largest possible distance between the pilot location and the outer side of the contingency volume (boundary between contingency volume and ground risk buffer) is greater than the VLOS boundary, no VLOS operation can take place. Operations must then take place in BVLOS.
