Exemption from Academic Examination for Registered Training Course Graduates

If you have returned your pilot certificate and completed a course at a registered drone school within three years of your old certificate's expiration, you can skip the written (academic) exam when applying for a new certificate. However, you must apply within three months of finishing the course.

Requirement as structured

A person who has received a Certificate of Return of Competency Certificate (技能証明書返納証明書) and completed a training course at a registered training agency (登録講習機関) within three years of their previous certificate's expiration is exempt from the academic examination (学科試験) when applying for a Test Pass Certificate (試験合格証明書), provided that no more than three months have elapsed since completing the training.

第二百三十六条の五十四　第二百三十六条の六十八第四項の規定による技能証明書返納証明書の交付を受けた者であつて、法第百三十二条の五十に規定する無人航空機講習（同条に規定する登録講習機関が行うものに限る。次項において同じ。）を修了したもの（直近において受けていた技能証明の有効期間が満了する日から起算して三年を経過しない者に限る。）が、第二百三十六条の三十八第九項の規定により試験合格証明書の交付を申請したときは、次の表の上欄に掲げる登録講習機関の種類に応じ、それぞれ同表の下欄に定める試験の学科試験を免除する。ただし、当該試験の開始期日前に当該無人航空機講習を修了した日から起算して三月を経過する場合は、この限りでない。
