To fly under VLOS, you must keep the drone within the shorter of two distances: how far you can clearly see its orientation (ALOS) and how far you can see other aircraft to avoid them (DLOS).

The maximum distance for a Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) operation must be the lesser of the Attitude Line of Sight (ALOS) and the Detection Line of Sight (DLOS).

VLOS Limit The maximum possible VLOS distance between remote pilot and UAS results from the smaller value of ALOS and DLOS. Anything beyond that is considered BVLOS.
